PULL THE PLUG - Energy Saving

We’re often oblivious to the power used by all our electronic devices when they are switched on, but many continue to quietly gobble up electricity when we aren’t even using them.

Cell phone chargers left plugged in turn just 5 percent of the energy they use into phone power. The other 95 percent is completely wasted (if your charger feels warm when it’s not in use, you know it’s still consuming energy.)

Leaving televisions and computers on “stand-by” can lead you to think that they are inactive, but they keep using up exspensive, carbon-emitted power. The average house has around 12 gadgets on stand-by or charging at any one time. Check your own home - devices like stereos, DVD players, TVs, game consoles, satellite and cable boxes and MP3 chargers use plenty of energy when not in use if they are not turned off properly.

Smart plugs are now available which switch off devices left on stand-by after a certain time. But getting in the habit of turning things off and unplugging chargers when not in use is just as effective.
